Technical Writing

May 4, 2015 By admin

Before I became freelance I worked as a technical writer for an investment bank in Germany for 7 years, where I was employed to write and translate documentation for traders.

I would receive documentation, often written in German, from application developers; I would then translate this to English and rewrite it to make it accessible for any trader even if their level of technical understanding was basic.

In addition I produced training material, system manuals and in-house interdepartmental business correspondence.

My comprehensive grounding in the production of technical written material whilst living abroad led me to become freelance. I saw a need for the production of a broad range of written technical material for the communication of information to expatriates by international financial services companies.

The majority of my projects since becoming freelance have been for international financial services companies and expatriate facing businesses.

If you need to communicate more effectively with your clients, or you want to communicate technically complex information in a more accessible and understandable way, I can help you.

I have many examples of my work that illustrate how I can write in plain English to explain even the most boring (!) or complicated subject matter.  Please contact me to discuss your project or how I can help you clearly communicate even the most technically complex information to your clients or colleagues.

Research

May 3, 2015 By admin

As part of any brief a certain amount of research is always required. Even if I am working for a regular client on a regular commission it is essential that I stay up to date with news and developments in their specific business environment or area of practice.

Furthermore, I am not restricted to any single business marketplace, and as a result it is often the case that I need to research before I can even quote for a proposed commission.

Like all postgraduates my background in research dates back to when I was in fulltime education, however it is a skill I have gladly honed over the years as I enjoy acquiring new knowledge.

I utilise many sources when independently researching, and I am happy to receive research material from clients to assist with any projects I am working on. I read, digest and assimilate information very quickly, and am therefore able to write up or rewrite researched material to tight deadlines.

For all communication projects an important part of my work is understanding for whom I am producing material, part of my work will always therefore be researching my reader and their expectations, abilities, ambitions etc.

Whether you have a specific subject matter that you need researching and documenting, or you have a project that will require my detailed research to understand your business area or your client for example, please contact me to discuss how we can work together.

Editing

May 2, 2015 By admin

I regularly edit online and offline content – and am far better at correcting other people’s work than my own! Clients commission me to edit for technical accuracy, to ensure effective communication to a specific type of client and to ensure continuity of message.

Additionally, I employ my own editor for each project I undertake – although some clients prefer to take ultimate responsibility for checking for typographical errors or literals.

Whether you’re looking for someone to edit regular content from multiple contributors, or you have an extensive guide or book that needs the close attention of a technical editor, please contact me to discuss your requirements and to see how we can work together.

Guides & Brochures

May 1, 2015 By admin

The creation of guide and brochure material for client information and customer acquisition is a core part of any company’s communication methods. I have been producing guides and brochures for the past 11 years; the majority of my guides are B2C and I have extensive experience in producing material for financial services companies.

I have detailed understanding of the international financial marketplace and the products and services available and of interest to expatriate and high net worth clients.

I regularly work with a graphic designer to produce ready to publish or print guides and brochures, and I have many examples of my work available for your scrutiny.

If you’re looking for expertly written, perfectly targeted communication material, please contact me to discuss your requirements or to request examples of my work.

Professional Communication

April 30, 2015 By admin

I believe that the concept of professional communication should be at the heart of every business – if you cannot communicate effectively with your employees, colleagues, suppliers, clients or service users your business will fail to reach its potential.

Professional communication encompasses all forms of communication: i.e., verbal, written, visual and digital. It involves far more than merely the technically accurate communication of a message, and includes appropriate choice of tone, vocabulary and even images where applicable.

Clients commission me as a communications professional for individual projects such as the creation of a guide to their services for example, and for ongoing communication of their brand or message online.

Examples of the professional communication material I produce:

I produce a weekly package of social media communications for one of my clients.

I write or edit all formal business-to-business communication for another client.

I produce every online update (social media, blog posts, company newsletters and annually updated product brochures) for another client.

There is no single approach to professional communication that is always appropriate because ultimately what is communicated depends in part on the recipient of the communication. What’s more, the method of communication is also important to understand. For example, written web communication such as producing blog posts is an entirely different discipline to producing effective verbal face-to-face communication material such as a speech.

I understand the complexities of effective professional communication and have extensive experience in this area.

Please contact me to talk about how I can help you capture and retain your clients’ interest, talk to your suppliers, beat your competitors and be heard and understood.

Specialist Areas

April 29, 2015 By admin

I have a degree in English, a postgraduate diploma in ICT, financial planning qualifications from the Chartered Insurance Institute, I speak German as a second language and I lived and worked abroad for 10 years.

These qualifications, skills and experience form a base from which I have developed extensive experience working mainly in the fields of: –

International financial planning

Expatriate financial advice

International relocation

And international real estate

I have probably produced more country and tax guides than anyone, ever! And I have almost certainly written more international financial guides, brochures, factsheets, blog posts and articles than is good for me!

I am not limited to working in these areas however, and I have recently assisted clients in areas as diverse as violin making and agriculture. Therefore, if you’re looking for a professional to help you produce any form of communication material no matter who it’s for or what business environment you’re in, please contact me so we can discuss your project and how I can help you.

Recent Project News

Testimonials and contributions

Selected testimonials: I deal with a lot of PRs and communication offices but Rhiannon has the knack of making herself stand out from the crowd. She works hard to produce interesting, relevant comment from her clients, carefully tailored towards the type of articles I write. She was particularly energetic at digging up case studies, which […]

Rewriting to Avoid Duplicate Content Filters

I’ve been rewriting personal profiles for the last couple of weeks. The original documents I’ve been working from have to be sufficiently altered to avoid any search engine duplicate content filters. At best content that’s seen as duplicate is not listed by the likes of Google – and at worst duplicate content can have a […]

Retirement Specific Country Guides

I’m lucky enough to be working with a really talented writer on a new series of country guides. These are being written specifically for pre-retirees planning their relocation overseas. The guides are divided into clear sections, which helps with research I find. I like to be able to divide up big projects into bite-seized pieces, […]
