I am convinced – from bitter personal experience as well as long conversations that I’ve had with colleagues and contemporaries – that in terms of effective communication, writing about oneself is one of the hardest things to do.
Fortunately I don’t struggle to communicate the best bits about other people, which is why I am often commissioned to write CVs and resumes, letters of application for jobs and internships, as well as personal profiles and company ‘about’ type information.
I am currently working on the production of pithy personal profiles for a large group of international lawyers, and have actually found that the less information I’m given the better able I am to develop a fresh profile for the person in question.
Therefore, when I received just a name and a single sentence about the latest lawyer on the list, I found myself free to create a clearly written description of his professional services.
