Testimonials and contributions

Selected testimonials:

I deal with a lot of PRs and communication offices but Rhiannon has the knack of making herself stand out from the crowd. She works hard to produce interesting, relevant comment from her clients, carefully tailored towards the type of articles I write. She was particularly energetic at digging up case studies, which is one of the hardest jobs for a PR. Her technical knowledge is strong, even in complex financial areas such as exchange traded funds. Rhiannon has also been very open and honest  in saying exactly what she can and cannot do for me. She is friendly, open, efficient and does everything with wit and good humour.

Harvey Jones: personal finance editor (Daily Express and Sunday Express)

I cannot fault Rhiannon’s commitment or passion. She constantly works longer hours than she is required to and it shows in the sheer quantity of her output.  Her HubSpot knowledge is immense. Excellent problem solving skills.

Rebecca Steele: head of marketing (AES International)

I find Rhiannon to be extremely ethical, with a high level of integrity. I believe that Rhiannon works well within the team and she values the contributions of each and every one of her colleagues. I thoroughly enjoy working with Rhiannon and she displays a very positive attitude towards tasks, is keen to learn.

Stuart Ritchie: director (AES International)

Rhiannon is a versatile writer and styles her writing to meet any requirement including, but not limited to, sales copy, creative or technical writing and whitepaper reports. Rhiannon clearly either knows the topic she is asked to write about, or supplements her knowledge with in-depth research as this is evident in her work. I recommend Rhiannon without hesitation, confident that any client will be more than satisfied with any commission they award to her.

Rewriting to Avoid Duplicate Content Filters

November 23, 2015 By admin

I’ve been rewriting personal profiles for the last couple of weeks. The original documents I’ve been working from have to be sufficiently altered to avoid any search engine duplicate content filters.

At best content that’s seen as duplicate is not listed by the likes of Google – and at worst duplicate content can have a really bad impact on a website if too much of it is clearly lifted from elsewhere.

The reason I’m rewriting is because my client has a number of related websites, offering the likes of real estate for sale overseas, or expatriate services, and many of those advertising their legal or fiscal expertise via my client are paying for placement across all of the sites.

I enjoy the work; I like the challenge drafting something totally different that basically says absolutely the same thing. It’s playing with words, which is what I love.

However, a couple of the profiles I have to recreate were written by me originally. I find it almost impossible to re-do my own work. Because I did my very best in the first instance, I feel that anything I subsequently present will be a second best version.

So, I have to work doubly hard to make the content read well when it’s my own writing that I’m redrafting, and every step of the way is painful. I drag my feet and grind my teeth throughout the process.

I’m actually glad I have deadlines to meet otherwise I’d probably never force myself to focus and get it done!

Retirement Specific Country Guides

October 2, 2015 By admin

I’m lucky enough to be working with a really talented writer on a new series of country guides. These are being written specifically for pre-retirees planning their relocation overseas.

The guides are divided into clear sections, which helps with research I find. I like to be able to divide up big projects into bite-seized pieces, and this time around it’s proving quite easy to do.

Whilst the research may be straightforward, the writing is hard! The target audience is mainly British, and it’s likely our readers will have a fairly good base knowledge of a country that we are writing about. However, there’s a balance to be struck between assuming knowledge and missing out critical information.

Interestingly the writer I’m working with is Russian, but her grasp of the English language is incredible.

Also, because she learned English as a second language in a formal fashion and to a very high graduate level, her understanding of English grammar is exceptional. So whilst I may have to edit her work to take out the odd bit of Russ-lish, she’s working hard to tidy up my overuse of exclamation marks and my misuse of semi-colons…

Retirement Abroad Guide

October 2, 2015 By admin

I recently completed the most comprehensive retirement abroad guide in the history of mankind (pretty much!). It contains everything from pre-planning information, to lifestyle considerations – right down the nitty gritty of the financial considerations of pre and post-retirees who want to live abroad in retirement.

Knowing where to start with such a guide is one thing, but knowing when you’ve actually written enough is equally tricky. Luckily I worked with a really supportive editor who told me when she felt she’d really read enough!

I took that are my cue to stop writing.

The guide is part of the Expatra.com project that I’m really excited to be a part of.

I’m hoping that the guide will be an exceptionally useful resource for anyone planning a move abroad when they retire. There are so many things to think about, plan for and consider that I wanted readers to be able to tick things off their to do list as they read through the guide.

I went for a fairly linear structure, working through each of the main topics of concern in turn in a question and answer format.

Because the guide is meant to be accessible and a truly useful stand-alone read, rather than being a pre-sell for a service for example, I decided on a fairly personal and friendly tone.

I will link to it when it’s available online – after the designer has worked his magic.

Professional Profiles

August 4, 2015 By admin

I am convinced – from bitter personal experience as well as long conversations that I’ve had with colleagues and contemporaries – that in terms of effective communication, writing about oneself is one of the hardest things to do.

Fortunately I don’t struggle to communicate the best bits about other people, which is why I am often commissioned to write CVs and resumes, letters of application for jobs and internships, as well as personal profiles and company ‘about’ type information.

I am currently working on the production of pithy personal profiles for a large group of international lawyers, and have actually found that the less information I’m given the better able I am to develop a fresh profile for the person in question.

Therefore, when I received just a name and a single sentence about the latest lawyer on the list, I found myself free to create a clearly written description of his professional services.

From this: –

Wilmer Vergara should be listed as the Visa Attorney for Panama, he studied for his LL.B in Panama, completing a Bachelor of Law and Political Science degree at the Santa Maria La Antigua University (USMA, in Spanish) and so far, he has specialized in Immigration Law, with a vast knowledge in visas, residency and work permits of all kinds.

Via research into his background and the company he works for…

To this: –

Wilmer Vergara
Visa Attorney for Panama | PGS Attorneys

Wilmer Vergara is a key member of Panama based PGS Attorneys, and his specific area of legal expertise is immigration law.

PGS Attorneys has a large, broadly international client base, and the legal firm’s scope encompasses assisting foreign nationals and corporations with their Panamanian interests.

Core to PGS Attorneys’ work is enabling individual and business relocation and integration in Panama, and central to this is Wilmer Vergara’s role as visa attorney for Panama.

Prior to joining PGS Attorneys as an immigration lawyer Mr. Vergara studied for his LL.B in Panama, completing a Bachelor of Law and Political Science degree at the Santa Maria La Antigua University.

Wilmer Vergara chose to further specialize in immigration law, and as a result of his specialization and extensively diverse role at PGS Attorneys he has developed detailed expertise in all matters pertaining to Panamanian visas, residency matters, work and business permits.

Wilmer Vergara is fluent in English and Spanish.

Research for Best Offshore List

May 27, 2015 By admin

I was recently commissioned to conduct the research needed for a leading High Net Worth publication to produce a ‘best offshore’ list for its readership.

My brief was to identify the best service providers in Jersey, Guernsey and the Isle of Man in fields such as legal, estate and tax planning, property, fiduciary services, family office, investment management etc., for HNW and UHNW.

When working for a third party and having to directly correspond with companies on their behalf you always face a hurdle…you have to get past instant suspicion.

Fortunately, having worked for many years with leading international financial service providers I was able to prove my credentials and get the required information from the vast majority of companies I identified as being suitable candidates for the list.

The information I was required to submit to the client included who would be the best point of contact at a given organisation to give a comprehensive overview of the company’s services.  I needed to identify these key personnel, compile their contact information, and write a summary of why I was including each company within my recommendations for my client.

My client is now compiling their own shortlist of top contenders from my extensive list, and they will contact each company’s representative for interview before publishing their ‘best offshore’ list in the Autumn.  When it’s published I’ll pop a link here.

Country Guides for Real Estate Investors

May 20, 2015 By admin

In January I took on a really big project for a brand new client.  The work was to produce 19 very detailed, well-researched country guides to be used online.

The anticipated readership was US based real estate investment professionals.

The guides needed to include economic information, advice about legal matters pertaining to real estate acquisition and residency/citizenship, as well as up to date information about the investment environment locally.

Obviously it was important to ensure all material produced was accurate, and the client’s own editor required details of all research material that I utilised.  Whilst it was important to communicate the relevant information in as positive a manner as possible to ensure it was accessible and ultimately read by site visitors, I was certainly not encouraged to gloss over any areas of concern.

The client’s site is a truly valuable resource now for anyone looking for real estate investment opportunities in the Caribbean and Latin American regions.

You can have a look at the guides as they are slowly being taken live on the client’s site.
